Me, Okasan, Yuki, and Otosan pose in front of the lava heated springs, located in the center of Kusatsu.  During the Edo period (1603 - 1867) there were men whose only job was to load barrels of hot spring water from right about where we were standing, then cart the water back to the Shogun in Tokyo.  As the couriers passed through towns with the water, villagers were expected to stop what they were doing and bow low to the guy bringing the Shogun his bathwater.
